Nose Drawing Assignment – Practice Structure and Planes

Timed four-minute nose drawing practice. Focus on structure, proportion, and connection to the eyes. Use planes to build solid form.

This assignment is designed to help you apply everything we’ve covered so far in the Nose Drawing section. You’ll draw from a series of four-minute poses, focusing on construction, planes, and proportion.

The goal isn’t perfection — it’s repetition. The more you practice these short sessions, the better you’ll understand how the nose connects to the rest of the head.

This lesson is part of the Head Drawing Course.

Assignment Overview

You’ll complete a set of timed four-minute studies where each pose emphasizes the nose structure — the bridge, tip, wings, and how they attach to the cheeks and brow.

If you have extra time, connect the nose to the eyes or even sketch the surrounding facial features for better context.

You’ll hear a short notification sound when 20 seconds remain — use that to tighten your construction lines and finalize proportions.

Tips for Success

  • Build the wedge shape first before adding nostrils.
  • Keep the centerline visible to track tilt and direction.
  • Indicate planes with tone rather than outlines.
  • Connect the nose to the surrounding facial features.
  • Repeat the exercise multiple times to strengthen muscle memory.

When You’re Done

After completing the exercise, move on to the next lesson where I demonstrate my own approach to the same timed poses. Comparing your sketches to mine will help you spot construction errors and see how to improve your structural rhythm.
