Original Los Angeles Dodgers Paintings — Dodgers Legends Art
Explore original Los Angeles Dodgers paintings by Robert Joyner. Expressive baseball art celebrating Jackie Robinson, Sandy Koufax, Fernando Valenzuela, and more.
Confession time, bro. I'm a lifelong Dodgers fan.
Don't ask me how it happened. I grew up on the East Coast in Virginia, yet somehow ended up rooting for the Dodgers, Rams, and Lakers. Apparently, I was a Los Angeles sports fan trapped in a Virginia kid's body.
And decades later? Nothing's changed.
I grew up watching the Dodgers when Tommy Lasorda was running the show, Steve Garvey was holding down first base, and Ron Cey was doing his thing at third. Those teams got me hooked on baseball, and I've been bleeding Dodger Blue ever since.
So naturally, painting Dodgers legends has become one of my favorite ways to combine two lifelong passions: baseball and art.

Dodgers Legends, Painted My Way
The Dodgers have an incredible history, from their Brooklyn roots to decades of unforgettable moments in Los Angeles.
And there are plenty of legendary players worth celebrating.
Jackie Robinson — Breaking Barriers
Few athletes have changed sports and society the way Jackie Robinson did. His courage, determination, and extraordinary talent make him one of my favorite subjects to paint.
I enjoy capturing his presence through expressive brushwork, bold shapes, and unexpected color combinations. Not photographic perfection. Just an honest interpretation of a baseball legend.
Sandy Koufax — The Legendary Lefty
One of the greatest pitchers ever to take the mound. Koufax had that unmistakable delivery, incredible command, and the kind of presence that makes for fantastic sports art.
The movement, the uniform, the intensity — plenty of inspiration for a loose painting.
Fernando Valenzuela — Fernandomania
If you followed baseball in the early 1980s, you remember Fernandomania.
Fernando brought excitement, personality, and an unforgettable pitching style to Los Angeles. That distinctive windup alone is enough to get an artist reaching for a paintbrush.
And of course, there are plenty more Dodgers legends worth exploring, including the players from those great teams I grew up watching.

Original Dodgers Art With Personality
My approach to painting sports legends isn't about copying photographs.
I want movement, character, energy, and a little creative freedom.
I work with acrylics, watercolor, drawing materials, and mixed media on canvas and heavyweight art paper.
Some paintings feature bold colors and thick, expressive brushwork. Others are simplified, spontaneous, and a little rough around the edges.
I might start with a structured drawing, then loosen things up as the painting develops. Sometimes I exaggerate shapes, experiment with color, or let the brushwork take the painting somewhere unexpected.
That's the beauty of painting loose, bro. You don't have to control every little mark.

From Brooklyn to Los Angeles
One of the things I love about Dodgers history is how many different generations of players have contributed to the team's legacy.
From Jackie Robinson and the Brooklyn years to Koufax, the Garvey-era Dodgers, Fernandomania, and today's stars, there's no shortage of inspiration.
Each generation brings different personalities, uniforms, moments, and stories.
And for me, that's what makes sports art interesting. It's not just about painting an athlete. It's about capturing a little piece of history through your own artistic interpretation.
