Original Cleveland Browns Paintings — Old-School Football Art
Explore original Cleveland Browns paintings by Robert Joyner, inspired by Jim Brown, classic NFL football, and memories of watching games on black-and-white TV.
I've always had a soft spot for old-school NFL players, and the Cleveland Browns are near the top of that list.
I grew up watching football on black-and-white TVs with rabbit-ear antennas, trying to make out the jerseys through the static. Single-bar face masks, ground-and-pound offenses, and tough-as-nails players. That era still inspires a lot of my sports paintings today.

Jim Brown — Built for Loose Painting
One of my favorite players to paint is Jim Brown.
The way he ran the football fits perfectly with my loose, expressive approach. Big shapes, bold marks, and all that raw movement you feel the second he takes a handoff.
I also enjoy painting classic Browns action scenes. Muddy fields, goal-line stands, and players crashing into each other.
Sometimes these paintings start as abstract shapes, and I gradually pull the players out with directional brushstrokes and strong contrasts.

Why I Love Painting Classic Football
There's something about those old grainy photographs, simple uniforms, and raw physicality that translates beautifully into expressive acrylic painting.
And every once in a while, painting these legends takes me right back to Sunday afternoons, twisting those rabbit ears and hoping the picture would stop rolling!
